The Avengers were originally created by SHIELD as an organization of extraordinary people who could fight the fights that could not be won by any normal man. After many heated arguments and fights between Tony and Fury, Tony Stark took in the Avengers himself and became the co-commander of the Avengers. Captain America and Tony Stark together were the commanders of the team. After many years of innactivity, the Avengers team slowly went into retirement. After Tony Stark discovered he had a son, Timothy Stark, he gave the position to him to lead the team, create a new one, so that Earth would always be safe.
